Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day

As you all know I love making things. While I was putting together the Valentine’s Day Candle Arrangement I really really wanted to bake something, too. So I decided on Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day. They look so nice with the jam in the middle forming a red heart. Sweet heart cookies for your sweetheart.

Even though the cookies are easy to make it does take a little time to cut them out and put the jam in the middle. But it is defenitely worth it. Look how nice they turned out. I used two different shapes. Round with a heart in the middle and heart shaped with a heart in the middle. So get those cookie cutters ready.

Here you can see what the cookies look like before they get put together. For each cookie you need a top and a bottom part.

So you start with making the dough. Afterwards you should chill it in the fridge for about 1hr. That hardens the dough a little bit which makes it easier to cut out the cookies. You can leave out this step, if you are in a hurry. Just be careful cutting out the cookies. I used three different cookie cutters. A round one and a big and a small heart shaped one.

Roll out the dough and cut out an even number of cookies. Then take half of them and cut out the heart. Put the cookies on a covered baking tray and bake for 6-8min at 350°F/180°C. The cookies should look slightly golden.

After letting the cookies cool down, heat red jam and spread it on the BOTTOM cookie half and stick the top to it immediately. Then dust with powdered sugar.

Heart Cookies

If you leave the cookies in the oven too long, this is what happens. They get too dark, obviously. 🙂 You can still use them unless they are burned, but the taste is more rustic. And as you can see the lighter cookie is much prettier.

The final step with these sweetheart shaped cookies for your sweetheart is wrapping them. I like to use boxes or tins with red roses on them. They just fit perfectly for Valentine’s Day. Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day in a box with red roses. Who wouldn’t love that?
