Textile Yarn Purse

Today I will show you how to make a textile yarn purse for yourself (or as a present). I really like to use textile yarn. It’s pretty thick and therefore easy to use and the project is quickly done. And the bags look really great. See for yourself.
Another bag idea you can find here: https://spoonsandscissors.com/big-bag-for-all-your-yarn/

To start out you need textile yarn, a bottom shaper, purse handles and, if you so desire, fabric for the lining of your purse.

Make A Textile Yarn Purse

For purses I prefer using Fettuccia textile yarn. It is light and can be a little stretchy. And depending on the size of your bag you do not need a lot of yarn. As you can see I bought 2 rolls, but ended up using only one, ca 260g. If you like to make your own textile yarn, which is a great way to recycle old clothes, look here: https://spoonsandscissors.com/make-textile-yarn-yourself/

For the bottom shaper I used a beige one and I got those cute striped handles for the bag. It is possible to make the bottom shaper yourself, same as the purse handles. But it takes a bit of time. When I made bottom shapers myself I used old plastic placemats and cut holes into it with special pliers. It it strenuous to say the least.

For the lining I chose some really really green fabric. I thought it went well with the light yellow-green color of the yarn.

Now we start making the purse. Take the bottom shaper and crochet slip stitches, good side up. I used a smaller crocheting hook for that, since the holes are relatively small. It takes a little bit of work to get that first round done. The next round (you crochet in spirals) you start using single crochets (sc), so make sure to mark the beginning. If the slip stitches are very tight, you might want to stay with the smaller hook for the second row as well. But then (round 3) switch to your big hook. I used no. 20. Now continue your spirals using single crochets.

As you can see in the picture (even though it’s different yarn), you turn the work inside out after a little while. That way the nice side of the bottom shows … well, on the bottom and the edge of the bottom piece is on the inside of the bag.

Continue crocheting until you almost reached the hight you would like your purse to have.

Then with your last round you crochet in the handles for your purse and finish off your work. Finally take your lining and sew it in and you are finished. It honestly only took me two afternoons to make this purse.

As you can see it is quite easy to make a textile yarn purse. Now have fun making your own.
