I don’t know how you feel, but I can’t stand winter anymore. I want spring! So I needed to do some arts and crafts and make candle holders and vases with jute. As a matter of fact we turned it into a family activity last weekend. And it was so much fun, we almost forgot to make dinner. 🙂 We will definitely do arts and crafts together again.

It doesn’t take too much to make the candle holders and vases. You upcycle your empty jars and bottles and save yourself the trip to the recycling point. Aside from the jars and bottles all you need is jute and lace ribbon. For extra decoration add buttons, rhinestones, ribbons and anything else you like.

Empty Jars and Jute Ribbon and String
The basics

I save a lot of jars and bottles for arts and crafts. Anytime a bottle has a neat shape or color I put it on the side. The same goes for jars, but I also keep normal ones. They are great for gifts of homemade treats and marmelades.

Empty jars and bottles

The jute material you can get “ready to be glued”. I like to buy them in packs to get a good selection. Also lace ribbon is easily available. I like white and cream colored lace, but you can get it in all different colors.

The lace ribbon is also very nice to use for decorating storage jars. It gives them that coutry kitchen look.

With our hot-glue guns ready our family activity turned out some really pretty things. Here you can see some before and after pictures.

Empty bottle still with label

The empty liquor bottle turned into a beautiful spring vase. Around the top I wrapped jute string. For the flower I used pipe cleaners (new – obvi) and a little rhinestone. And the bottom of the bottle I decorated with rhinestone flowers.

Here is another vase that I made. It has a more county style look. First the “ingredients” and then the finished vase.

Jar and Jute

I did add a button and a rhinestone to give the vase something special. Since it was made from a jar it is more for smaller flowers.

Now I will show you acouple of candle holders. They can be used individually or put together.

Candle Holder with glitz

This candle holder with glitz is actually my husband’s creation. He tied gold and green glitzy ribbon together and decorated the top and bottom of the candle holder with it and added two leaf rhinestones.

Then we found out that we can combine our candle holders to make a special one.

So as you can see candle holders and vases with jute are really cute and not difficult to make. So get you hot-glue gun ready and go.
