Cleaning up the house a bit I came across so many little things that don’t really have a place in the shelfes. I also had just lit my last tealight and was about to throw the cardboard box away. Then I thought the box was actually a great size for all those little things, but, of course, it didn’t look very pretty. So I wanted to do something about that by making a little storage box out of it.

I pulled out some leftover fabric from making the inlets for my daughter’s chair pillows (https://spoonsandscissors.com/chair-pillows/) and some arts & crafts felt fabric in pink. Using Elmer’s Glue I covered the box with the white fabric on the inside and the bottom and glued the pink felt on the outside. To pretty it up even more I used a sparkling ribbon around the top. I think it turned out really cute. And if you are wondering what I put in it, well, I didn’t. My daughter liked it so much I lost the box immediately 🙂

Making a storage box is actually quite easy. Cover the bottom of the box with glue and stick the cloth to it. Cut off excess fabric, but leave a little edge and glue it onto the side. Now cover the inside of the box with glue and stick the cloth to it.

Covering a box with white cloth on the inside

Cut off excess fabric and again leave a little edge to glue onto the sides. To make the inside look nice I folded the cloth in which you can see here.

Cloth folded and glued to the inside of the box.

Fold the edges over and glue them to the outside of the box. Don’t worry about fraying or seeing the edges. Everything there will be covered by the felt.

Once you are done with the white cloth, cut the felt according to the size of your box and glue it on. After a short time of drying you can decorate the box. That’s it.

  1. Love the updates! I definitely think the house needs to continue to be decorated after Christmas. I’ve even moved some plants around since we got home yesterday. They help brighten it with the snow outside 😻
