Easy To Make Floor Pillows
A great way to use textile or t-shirt yarn (bought or self-made) is for these easy to make floor pillows. Sometimes you just need some extra sitting places, but you don’t want or have more chairs to use. Or maybe you have teenagers in the house who really prefer sitting on the ground. Now you have a solution: floor pillows. And they are easily stored away, too.
As for the Big Bag I used the no. 20 crocheting hook for the floor pillows. I think it is the best size hook for these kind of projects. It makes them pretty fast, too, which is nice.
The pattern I used are simple single crochet stitches and I worked in spirals. It’s only 16 rounds of crocheting for each side and with the final round (17) you crochet them together. Make sure to put in the filler pillows before you close them completely though. Nobody wants to unravel anything, even if it is only a small part.
For the inside I used old white t-shirts and turned them into filler pillows. Just cut off the neck and sleeve part and sew both open sides shut. But any fabric will work. You can also make the filler pillows round. Just sew them accordingly. Then use foam flakes to fill the pillows and close the last bit of the seam.
So we start again with a magic ring of 6 stitches and increase every round until you reach 96 stitches or the amount according to your desired pillow size.
When the first side is finished, make another one and with the 17th row crochet both sides together. As I mentioned before, do not forget to put the filler pillow inside before finishing the last round completely.
For the pillow above I found some nice textile yarn out of a jeans material. It is very durable and therfore great for floor pillows.
My next two pillows I made out of thick t-shirt yarn and the leftover jeans yarn. For the first one I used the jeans yarn only for the trim.
The last pillow has a jeans yarn center and bigger trim. I ran out of textile yarn so I had to make my own 🙂 In the end I used a pair of old jeans and a dark blue pair of jogging pants. I think it turned out quite well and it is very nice to sit on.
These pillows are also a great way to recycle old clothes. If you would like to find out how to make your own textile yarn from sorted out clothes look here: https://spoonsandscissors.com/make-textile-yarn-yourself/
